This includes the complete Harry Potter Full Cast Edition, encoded in 5.1-channel Opus audio. Each book is provided as a single Opus file with embedded chapters, metadata, cover-art, and grouping inside ogg/vorbis tags.

This was encoded with libopus encoder in 196k-VBR mode, giving the encoder plenty of headroom to allocate additional bits to complex audio passages when needed, using the highest-quality sources available for these editions (Dolby EAC-3 files at 762 kbps). The original surround sound layout was preserved by encoding the audio as 5.1-channel Opus, retaining the surround effects and spatial audio experience of the source. The final files average around 112 kbps. This is thanks to Opus’s high efficiency compared to other codecs, allowing it to maintain almost the same audio quality at a significantly lower average bitrate.

I created this encode a while ago, when the Harry Potter Full-Cast Editions were first released, mainly to save storage space on my home server while preserving as much sound quality and audio detail as possible.

While another Opus encode does exist on this site, it is encoded in 2-channel stereo rather than 5.1-channel surround sound and uses much lower-quality source files (128 kbps M4Bs), resulting in higher generational loss. It also has multiple Opus files splitted for every chapter of each book, which makes it less ideal (imo).

I’m not trying to downplay that encode or anything, in fact, that was one of the reasons I decided not to upload my own encode at the time. However, since enough time has passed, I thought it might be a good idea to finally share these so that others can enjoy them as well.
